Automotive Seat Track
Automated quality testing of automotive seat assemblies
Challenge
Develop an automated end-of-line pass/fail testing system to ensure product quality, eliminate containment and significantly reduce returns and warranty claims based on NVH issues.
End of the Line for NVH Issues
Signalysis developed an end-of-line IQC™ test system integrated into the production line for 100% unit testing. The test station ensured the ability to:
- Identify root causes of NVH issues
- Validate aesthetic & functional specifications
- Impact production cycle time minimally
- Eliminate cost & subjectivity of human inspection
The test station included: computer control system, multi-channel data acquisition system, digital I/O interface hardware, seat track motor control hardware / software, accelerometers / automated placement devices and SigQC™ analysis software.
Testing
Power seat tracks were run through their entire range of motions with vibration and motor current measurements recorded and analyzed. SigQC employs high-level post-processing in time and frequency domains to detect faults in the drive motors, gear systems and other moving parts. Faulty seats were tagged by the software so that they could be repaired and retested before being shipped to the customer.
Capturing Data
The following measurements and analysis types were utilized in the test process:
- Vibration
- Travel Velocity
- Duty Cycle
- Travel Distance
- Fourier Transforms
- Digital Filtering
- Speed Fluctuation
- A-Weighted Sound Pressure Level
- AM Roughness & Fluctuation
- Sound Pressure Level
- Dynamic Motor Current
- Static Motor Current
- SPS Sensor Response
- Hilbert Transforms
- 3D Dynamic Response
- Statistical Analysis
Delivering Results
As a result of implementing the Signalysis IQC Test System, the manufacturer was able to:
- Document complete testing data prior to shipment
- Reduce returns & warranty issues associated with noise and vibration defects
- Ship seats confident that they would meet customer quality requirements
