This summer Peyton Miller is serving a co-op term with Signalysis. In addition to other projects, she will be working on research and development opportunities that include the use of robotics to conduct quality testing.
Hi Peyton. Can you tell us a little about yourself?
I’m originally from California. I live in Fresno. I have a younger sister who is about to start her first year of college at Fresno Pacific University. Like me, she is going to be playing basketball at the collegiate level. I’m attending Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology where I’m studying mechanical engineering with a minor in economics.
Is this your first co-op term?
No, I had a co-op internship in Terre Haute, Indiana last summer. I spent time with a company that manufactures plastic food packaging.
What do you hope to learn while at Signalysis?
I’m excited by the opportunity to apply the engineering principles that I’ve been learning in school to real world applications.
How has your experience with Signalysis been to date?
I’m really enjoying my time here so far! Everyone at Signalysis has been kind and welcoming, and there are some exciting projects going on that I’m looking forward to working on.
Do you have any hidden talents or a brush with greatness?
I’m on the women’s basketball team at Rose-Hulman, so I guess I would call basketball my talent.
That’s cool. But is it difficult to balance athletics with your major?
After three years of playing basketball and studying engineering, I have found it easier to balance school and sports. I try to manage my time by doing my homework when I have a gap between classes and try to complete assignments at least a day before they’re due so I don’t feel stressed to make a deadline. I also have a work-study position in the athletic department, and that gives me a few hours a day to sit down and get homework or studying done before I have practice or a game.
Do you have any favorite movies?
My favorite movie is Step Brothers. I’m also a big Marvel and Star Wars fan, so I enjoy watching those movies as well. My favorite Marvel movie is probably Iron Man 2, and my favorite Star Wars movie would have to be Revenge of the Sith.
Do you like to travel? If so, where are some of your favorite destinations?
Yes, I love to travel. My favorite place I’ve been to would have to be Kenya. We went on a safari, and I got to SCUBA dive in the Indian Ocean!
