J.T. is an electrical engineering major at the University of Cincinnati. This is his third co-op session and his first with Signalysis. Let’s learn a little more about him in this short interview.

Thanks for your time today J.T. OK first obvious question. What does J.T. stand for?

It stands for John Thomas. But I’m rarely ever call that.

Can you tell us a little about your responsibilities here at Signalysis?

My responsibilities are helping out on various projects ranging from soldering, working in excel to clean up data, and making schematics in EPLAN.

Can you tell us a little about your background?

I’m from Louisville but was born in Cincinnati where most of my grandparents and cousins still reside. My mom, dad, and sister still live down in Louisville with our dog Rosie. For education, I attended St. Albert the Great Grade School and Trinity High School before choosing the University of Cincinnati as my current home. I now live a couple minutes off campus and am about to start my fourth year this fall.

What attracted you to spend a co-op session with Signalysis?

My main goal for co-op is to learn and figure out where my interests lay once I graduate. When I found out the number of opportunities I would get at Signalysis, I was hooked. They also gave me the ability to not be restricted to one aspect which will help me explore all areas to find what I love most. Lastly, with it being a smaller company, I receive more responsibility and attention to help further along my career.

What’s something that you’ve learned during your short time at Signalysis?

Out of the many things I’ve learned so far, my favorite has been data cleanup using Excel VBA. I’ve used it before, but it was refreshing to get those skills working again when I’m contributing to something much bigger than what I’ve done in school. With VBA, there are no limits to how far you can use it, and I’m always eager to learn more.

OK, last question. What’s something about you that not many people know? Any interesting hobbies or special talents?

I like to play guitar, and I attend lots of concerts. I also enjoy running and going to our lake cottage near Lake Michigan every year. I also enjoy watching baseball, basketball, and football. I root for all the Cincinnati teams, but I would say my most passionate one is the Reds. After not living in Cincinnati during baseball season for most of my life, I’m using my opportunity this summer to get to a bunch of games.
